After narrowly missing out on a return trip to the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament last year, the Ladies are eyeing the start of the 2011 campaign with renewed determination. Led by senior Caddie Durrett, an All-Ohio and All-NCAC performer as a junior, the Kenyon women have the experience and pieces in place to make a bid for their first postseason appearance since 2007.
Durrett was Kenyon's top performer in every offensive category one season ago with six goals, three assists, and 15 points. Her emergence as the Ladies' go-to scorer allowed her teammates to fill complimentary roles, giving Kenyon a potent offensive dynamic.
Junior Courtney Hague excelled as the Ladies No. 2 scorer with four goals and two assists as a sophomore. Also returning to the Ladies attack are seniors Virginia Rushton and Lindsay Watts, who each tallied a pair of goals last season.
Kenyon will have its biggest holes to fill on the defensive side of the pitch where graduation claimed All-NCAC first-team goalie Kat Powers and two-time All-NCAC defender Hannah Lodi. However, the Ladies maintain plenty of depth to account for those two key losses. Retuners senior Monty Sherwood, juniors Heather Amato, Charlotte Detchon, and Sarah Heminger were integral cogs in the 2010 defense, which posted a 1.08 goals against average.
In between the pipes, sophomore Lauren Wolfe will get first crack at replacing Powers, who graduated among Kenyon's career leaders with 215 saves (6th) and nine shutouts (5th).
The Ladies will open 2011 with back-to-back home games on September 3rd and 4th against Marian University and Capital University. Kenyon's NCAC slate begins September 27th at the College of Wooster.
